Desktop Goose is a free novelty anti-efficiency and anti-productivity software that will keep on pestering you. Developed by Samperson, this program deploys what looks like a lovable goose on your desktop. However, it’s far from adorable.
While you’re playing a game, this goose will constantly create havoc on your computer by chasing your cursor, displacing your windows, and launching the Notepad app. Desktop Goose is inspired by the simulation video games, Untitled Goose Game and SkateBIRD.
Will Desktop Goose give you a virus?
Desktop Goose is a lovely desktop virtual pet. His pixelated yellow and white body will be found waddling around your computer, leaving muddy footprints all over it. However, this little app has a lot of features that will only slow you down. Goose will appear on your desktop and start following your cursor immediately after installation. At first, it seems cute, but its behavior will spiral out of control.
Though not a virus, this software has the ability to disrupt any operation on your computer. It will emerge while you are playing a computer game by dragging a message that reads «excellent work.» However, Goose’s worst move is possessing your mouse. For example, one minute, you’re playing a game and the next, your cursor becomes stuck. It will send your character whirling in all directions right away.
It’s worth noting that no operating system recognizes this software’s file right away. This implies that your computer will warn you that the app has the potential to damage your system. Install the software as usual, and it will start up automatically. Take note that this app is meant for some lighthearted pranks.
Annoying but charming program
Desktop Goose gives you the nostalgic feeling of owning a virtual desktop pet like Shimeji-ee, but Goose’s sole goal is to torment you. The goose will continuously wreak havoc on your computer by chasing your cursor, displace your windows, and launch the Notepad app while you’re playing a game. Inspired by the Untitled Goose Game and SkateBIRD, Desktop Goose is another app that’s out for your productivity.
Is Desktop Goose dangerous?
Desktop Goose is a charming virtual pet for your desktop. You will find his yellow and white pixelated body waddling around your computer, leaving mud tracks all over your screen. This lightweight program packs a lot of capabilities that are only out to diminish your productivity. Immediately after installation, Goose will appear on your desktop and begin following your cursor. It appears adorable at first, but its behavior will get worse.
While it is not a virus, Desktop Goose can interrupt any activity on your computer. It will not hesitate to appear while you’re playing a PC game by dragging a note that says ‘good job.’ The worst thing Goose can do is take control of your mouse. For example, you’re in the middle of a game and it takes a hold of the cursor. It will immediately send your character spinning in all directions.
Note that that software’s file is not immediately recognized by any operating system. This means your computer will let you know that the program is ‘potentially harmful.’ Proceed to install the program as you normally would, and it will immediately run by itself. Applications for this program go beyond personal use; you can install this in another person’s computer for good, harmless entertainment. They’ll be surprised to see an unidentified image controlling their PC.
How do I get my Desktop Goose to work on Windows?
Once you download Desktop Goose, you’ll see that it’s contained in a ZIP file. All you need to do is right-click it and select Extract. The extracted folder should have the Desktop Goose EXE file. Double click this file, and it should automatically run. If a pop-up window appears saying that your PC ‘prevented an unrecognized program from running,’ click More Info then click Run Anyway.
You’ll immediately see the little duck appear on the corner of your screen! In the same Desktop Goose folder where the executable file is located, you’ll find Assets. It contains the images, videos, and audio files that the duck interacts with. You can also customize the files. However, customizing Desktop Goose can be tricky because it does not have a guidebook or menu to help you do that.
Customization, in this case, is similar to coding. For example, you can select the audio file in the Sound folder, and rename it to Music. You can also include your own JPG, MP4, and MOV files for the duck to interact with. As long as it’s in the destination folder of Desktop Goose, it will interact with the files the next time you run the program. Remember, you can’t control Desktop Goose; it will interact with the files at random.
Good, clean but annoying fun!
Desktop Goose allows you to experience the nostalgia of ‘owning’ a virtual desktop pet like The Bad Dog from After Dark; however, Goose’s main purpose is to annoy you. It will interact with you for as long as the computer is on. This makes it a suitable program for personal computers to avoid affecting important or urgent work. It is also amusing to install this in an unwitting person’s device to see them wonder where things went wrong.
